Work with numbers in Sheets

Build a budget, check the formulas, and work through the numbers with your Familiar.

Sheets keeps the spreadsheet and the conversation in one place. Let your Familiar build a first pass, then check and adjust the numbers yourself.

Create a spreadsheet

  1. Open Apps → Sheets and choose New spreadsheet.
  2. Pick Workspace, name it, and create it.
  3. Close the Apps panel for a wider sheet.

Tell your Familiar what you're trying to work out, for example:

We have $180 for a workshop with six people. Build a budget for materials, printing, and snacks. Show quantities, unit prices, line totals, cost per person, and what's left.

Check the calculation

Select a total cell and read its formula in the formula bar — a total built with =SUM(...) is just adding the line items above it. Ask your Familiar to explain a formula or change an assumption, then check the resulting cells yourself.

Make your own adjustments

Edit the sheet directly whenever you already know what you want — double-click a column header's edge to fit it to its contents, then choose Save spreadsheet and wait for Saved. If the sheet reports conflicting changes, decide which version to keep before continuing; discarding local edits replaces your unsaved work with the saved version, so use it deliberately.

Turn the plan into a short deck in Slides.
